A Guest lecture By Mr. P K Pant. He currently holds the position of vice president in jauss polymer limited.  He has 38 yrs of experience in cotton, textiles, concepts n packaging marketing. He shared his experience as well as given knowledge and more clarity on marketing. He spoke on various topics of marketing like what is marketing, marketing concepts, marketing research. He also answers to some interesting questions like what is buyer’s n sellers market, what is jobber in marketing channels, marketing can b standardized or not, why demand is decrease for nano
He also shared examples relating to packaging. He said boomer is packed in a jar n supply to customer that is, at zero level channel. One of the interesting example he told that boomer is the only brand whose price is constant from the last 20 or 30 years. There is inflation so industry has to focus on cost cutting and increase in production better quality should be there. Boomer price is constant but it quantity is reduced.
Overall it’s a good experience for all of us. He has given depth knowledge of marketing. He told about the practical aspects what the production dept has to do. He also said that previously wool was easily shrunk. So the company enhance the quality and now the woolen clothes can easily washable in washing machine. We can easily recognize it from the name of OSWAL woolen clothes. We all heard about ISI mark. There is a wool mark also. When the wool mark failed OSWAL wool gained popularity.

THE ROLE OF INPUT & OUTPUT DEPARTMENT IN NEWS CHANNELS


What is news and why some of the stories are not news for news channels? There is one and only one answer to these questions. It is the prerogative of Input and Output department of the channel. The School of Journalism & Mass Communication organized special lectures on “The Role of Input & Output Department in News Channels” to educate and familiarize the students of SJMC on these issues.

There was an overwhelming response from the students and they interacted with the guest speaker’s during question-answer session. Mr. Gurpreet Singh, Input Head of P7 News Channel explained the process and criteria of the selection and collection of news. He further explained how the Input department collects the raw news stories from the Local Correspondents, Bureaus throughout the country, along with news feeds from various Agencies, Foreign Correspondents and Retainers. He explained the priorities of the News Channels and elaborated the different modes of operations and strategies applied for news gathering.

The next session was conducted by Mr. Anurag Sharma, Deputy Output Head of Star News. He discussed the ways of selecting news for the day and how the run-down is decided, prepared and updated for the whole day. He explained how the news gathered by the Input department is given the final shape and is finally presented on the TV Screen. Mr. Anurag differentiated between news and advertisement and clarified the parameters of TAM / TRP. In the discussion he emphasized about the latest trends of news selection and the reason for story drop out. He satisfied the queries of the students regarding the demands of the Media Industry.

IMS Noida "Workshop on Photo Journalism"

Photography is a documentation of memories, happening and capturing of moments. It has special meaning in Journalism. Photo Journalist is an important person in the Print media. What is the role of photo journalist?  What are the complications and compulsions of photo Journalism?  What are the requirements for a good photo journalist?  Just to answer these questions, SJMC organized a three days workshop.
      The workshop was conducted by Mr. Raaj Dayal, Chief Photographer, Indian Express and Mr. Aswini Joshi, Head, Nikon Professional Services.
      First day was fully devoted to the lecture by Mr. Dayal and his interaction with the students. While telling the characteristics of a good photograph he said that a good photograph must contain at least one component out of three – (1) Animation (2) Relation with the context (3) Depth of field.
   Second day of the workshop was devoted to the photographic drill at chandni chowk & near by areas.  Twenty nine students of various semesters were involved in the Photography Drill under the supervision of Dr. Sachin Batra and Mr. Pramod Kumar. The faculty members briefed about the requirements and the guidelines for the Photography Field Exposure. After briefing the students were dispersed into various locations of Chandni Chowk to click Photographs. Students clicked many photographs sharing the struggle and the life of common man at Chandni Chowk eg: people and their profession, roadside life and colors of the market. 
The concluding day (3rd day) was an exciting day for the students as students got the opportunity to interact with Mr. Ashwini Joshi, the Head Nikon Profession Services. Mr. Joshi displayed the wide latest Range of Camera from Nikon Company, out of which one Nikon J-I series camera was launched same day in Mumbai. Mr. Joshi explained the technical aspects of camera through a power point presentation and demonstrated the wide range of cameras he brought including lenses specially the fish eye lens. The post lunch session was for evaluation of photographs clicked by the students in the presence of Prof. (Dr.) Manorama Trikha (Academic Advisor, IMS)
